You are being watched for your own safety

Note: this play, though designed for one actor, can be performed by as many as seven, with each taking a board. If there is more than one actor, one of them holds up a sign that says BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU through-out the entire play.

A series of boards -- each containing a hand-written phrase and a depiction of a surveillance camera -- are held up in order. In the first five boards, the surveillance camera looks straight ahead, then left, then right. In the last two boards, the cable connecting the camera to the monitor has been cut.

The handwritten phrases are as follows: YOU ARE BEING WATCHED FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY; WHO IS WATCHING?; COPS WITH GUNS ARE WATCHING; WHO WATCHES THE WATCHERS?; COPS WILL SHOOT PICTURES THE WAY COPS SHOOT GUNS; NO MORE RACIAL PROFILING; NO MORE INVASIONS OF PRIVACY.
