from Guy Debord

To Claude Gallimard[1]
16 January 1969
Sir:

We have learned that last week, at the house of a certain Sergio Veneziani, someone named Antoine Gallimard spoke to several people (who have informed us) about the situationists and their relations with the Gallimard publishing house. This cunt said that "the situationists" have made several offers of their services, including a collection that, moreover, he had to "refuse"; and that, despite this, the situationists, as a group, are "the employees" of Gallimard, or are on the point of becoming employees in the future.

This piece of shit [raclure de bidet] obviously deludes himself, but he cannot peddle such hopes just because you have confided them to him.

Failed son of your father, you will not be surprised to find an increased debility in the following generation.

This piece of shit naturally identifies himself, in his turn, with your role because, like you, he hopes to inherit it.

This boasting is above your means.

To date, two situationists [Raoul Vaneigem and Rene Vienet] have had a book published by you. You will never know any more situationists and, from the two in question, you will never have another book.

You are so stupid and so wretched that it is unless to add anything more insulting.
