from Guy Debord

To Floriana Lebovici
31 December 1987
Dear Floriana:

The title of my next work is Comments on the Society of the Spectacle,[1] without quotation marks. These will not be commentaries on my old book, but on the same subject, as it is today. Fortunately, the error does not appear in the [Editions Gerard Lebovici] catalogue, but only in a slightly more confidential circular.

I have finished the revision of Clausewitz and will read Alfieri[2] and Mariana[3] with pleasure. I will signal to you upon your return to Paris.

We embrace you.
Guy

[1] Translator's note: Debord would write this book between February and April 1988. It would be published by Editions Gerard Lebovici later that same year.

[2] My Life by Vittorio Alfieri, which Editions Gerard Lebovici would publish in May 1989.

[3] Jean de Mariana, a Spanish Jesuit and theologian, author of the treatise De rege et regis constitutione, in which it is argued that a tyrant who revolts against the Church could be put to death by his subjects.
