To the Spur group
18 June [1961]
Dear friends:

Uwe Lausen will explain to you how it is necessary to act in the affair of Spur #5. Here are the principles of action:

The small press-run Spur #5 that the printer keeps in circulation has a double result: it prevents us from having and diffusing our ideas and, at the same time, it prevents us from pointing out that the police in Munich have seized this issue of the journal, and thus from getting foreign editions of it published, because no one has yet officially taken responsibility for ordering the seizure of Spur #5.

You must understand that it is necessary to urge the German authorities to openly take this responsibility. And then we will make an immense scandal on the international plane. The seizure is the confirmation of the revolutionary activity of the Spur group.

Thus, you must retain a lawyer. To require the printer that he immediately delivers to you the entire press-run by threatening him with a lawsuit (demanding damages for the delay, etc.). Or, indeed, if he doesn't want to deliver it, that he signs a document that specifies the identity of the authorities that have demanded that he should not do so! Or, indeed, he alone takes the responsibility. And then you file a defamation lawsuit against him.

You must absolutely obtain either the recoil of the authorities, or an official seizure [of the journal] with a public case against our ideas. Then we will be able to defend ourselves very well; in other words, we will attack.

Cordially yours,
Guy, Keller [Asger Jorn]

P.S. Uwe will be in MUnich next Wednesday (22 June).
